As the curtain rises a lady is singing at the piano and the ventriloquist is engaged in reading. A ventriloquial figure seated on a pedestal attracts the ladys attention and she asks for a cigarette. The figure produces one for her and the lady departs.
Laurence Glen notices the doll is smoking and reprimands him. During a conversation which follows. Glen makes a clay bust of the doll, which begins to talk and calls his attention to a near by cabinet. Glen tells the figure that if a magic word is uttered the obviously empty cabinet will produce something, The doll utters the words and the curtain of the cabinet mysteriously opens to reveal a statue.
During a verbal argument with the doll, Glen puts the doll into the cabinet a draws the curtain. Humorous business and "distant voice" proves the doll has vanished. The curtain is opened and the statue has vanished also.
Now the figure pops his head through various parts of the scenery, the ventriloquist chasing him until he cries out in desperation "Where are you?", A parrot, which has been sitting quietly on its perch calls out "Polly knows!" and does a series of cartwheels on its perch.
The sound of a machine is heard and the doll rushes across the stage on a motor scooter as the curtain closes.
