Next wine is given to the audience from a bottle. Then Mdlle. Velma (his assistant) borrows a gold and a silver watch from the audience. These are wrapped in a borrowed handkerchief and this enfolded in a larger one. The whole thing then placed into a paper bag. After some "electric chair" business, the large handkerchief is found in the bag but the small handkerchief and watches have vanished. The wine bottle is then smashed and the watches found therein, each tied to the corner of a borrowed handkerchief.
The final effect was his famous "Find the lady " illusion using three huge cards suspended from the flies and his lady assistant on stools behind them. As in the Three-card Monte, she could never he found, and finally she vanishes and reappears from the back of the theatre.
