NANKIN TAMASUDARE (Limited Edition)
Tonight I bring to you the classic Japanese bamboo mat manipulation Nankin Tamasudare which was born in the Goka Mountains 350 years ago, during the Edo period of Japans history.
This amazing mat is manipulated to form figures that are used to illustrate a story, and although the story does not translate well into English I think you will find the figures made by Tamasudare speak a universal language.
So begins the performance of Nankin Tamasudare, the Dance of the Knitting Bamboo.
I have closed my act with Nankin Tamasudare since 1986 and it is the most remarked upon item in my show, I find people both charmed and entertained by this dramatic piece of theater, which promises to take your audience to another time and place.
So, if you want to put something different into your act this is it. But be warned this is not self-working and, like most good things, needs time and practice to do well.
Each mat is hand made to my exact specifications - often by me personally. I make them quite a bit larger than tradition dictates and finish them in a bright yellow color, features designed to makes the prop highly visible, even in the largest auditorium. The materials used are the result of trial and error. Over the years I have made dozens of mats in almost every conceivable combination of materials and discovered that which work best.
On the accompanying flash drive you will find a DVD performance before a live theater audience along with handling, history, and care of Tamasudare. Then I show in detail how to make each of the figures. Also on the drive are three different choices of music ranging from traditional to contemporary plus an introductory narration - all of which offer you flexibility of presentation.

PRECOGNITION Video Prediction System

Precognition: Clairvoyance relating to an event or state not yet experienced. In this case to foretell a video event before it occurs.
A spectator chooses one of six disks and places it into a DVD player. They then choose an episode on that disk, then a chapter from that episode. Before they hit the play button you describe a scene in detail. They then play their selection and it matches your description perfectly.
The disks can be checked both before and after, all the episodes and chapters are different.
The effect plays in almost any venue, from a TV set in a living room to a full size auditorium. If the theater has multimedia capabilities the effect plays huge.
NOTE: This product is compatible with most DVD players, however there may be some off brand, or older machines, with which it might not compatible. Please check first.

POCKET TECHNICOLOR PREDICTION
This is my current choice of method for performing “Technicolor Prediction.” The effect plays the same as my full size version, described below, but fits in your jacket pocket. It can be performed anywhere and anytime from stage to close up‚ it has built in laughs and a surprise finish. This version uses Mike Porstmanns “Double Decker” envelopes, gaffed envelopes that have a wide variety of magical uses.
Updated version comes with 5 different envelopes (3 color for Technicolor Prediction Effect, Security Envelope and Manila Envelope)
In the accompanying Quicktime movie I show you how to construct these Double Deckers quickly and easily and in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles, including a Poker size pay envelope and a most innocent looking drug store “security lined” style. I then go over the Technicolor Prediction routine in both performance and handling, and also give many other ideas and routines for using these versatile envelopes.
The Package includes pre-made envelopes and Acrobat template files to allow you to print your own as required. You will eventually need a computer with a color printer to take full advantage of these files.

THE HATHAWAY HOULETTE
Hathaways remarkable contribution to the rising cards trick has become a classic of its genre. This astonishing effect is not only deceptive and practical but highly visible too, making it most effective for stage or parlor presentation.

BIRTHDAY AD-ON FOR SIGNATURE SKETCHPAD
It seems you have forgotten to bring a card for the birthday child so you offer to draw one on a large artist pad. After some byplay it is seen that the drawing is of a magician's top hat. You then hand the marker to the birthday child and ask them to wave it in the air like a magic wand. As they do a bunny slowly rises out of the hat holding a big “Happy Birthday” sign.
You then draw some confetti on the page, rip it out, sign it, and give it to the birthday child as a memento. You suggest that, to remember the party, all the children sign the card and help color it in before they leave.

CRYSTAL GAZING
The audience is invited to concentrate on a freely selected jumbo card. An onstage spectator who was not privvy to the selection, “divines” it’s name by gazing into a crystal ball. JUMPING JELLYBEANS
Different colored Jellybeans magically rearrange themselves. Lots of Participation, Laughs, and Magic packed into a Professional Routine. Based on an effect by Eric Lewis, with routine and presentation by David Kaye, a.k.a. “Silly Billy.”
EFFECT: Two kids are invited onstage. Three yellow jelly beans are placed one by one in the yellow bag, which is held by the first kid - then three pink in the pink bag, held by the second kid - and finally three purple in the purple bag, held by you. After some byplay one jellybean is removed from each bag, shown and replaced, to establish which colors are in each bag. Then the magic happens. Now each bag now holds one bean of each color.
Lots of fun audience involvement, magical moments, and a presentation that encourages sharing between kids.

THE COMEDY COMEBACK CARD
A deck of cards is shown, and cut to bring the Five of Diamonds (for example) to the face. It is then put into a clear holder to prevent any possibility of sleight of hand.
Now the Five of Diamonds is deliberately removed and pushed it into the deck leaving the Six of Spades (for example) showing. A handkerchief is flicked over the cards, and the Five of Diamonds jumped right back to the front. The Five is removed to show the Six of Spades is still there.
Following the popular six card repeat theme, the effect is repeated a second and third time, on the fourth try a Joker makes an appearance. Finally the Joker is put away and the Five jumps back for the last time.

BIG SWITCH
Recently a friend called my attention to a company called "Ickle Pickle" who is selling my effect "Big Switch" without my permission. Even worse, the product is very poorly made and it bears my name. For this reason I have decided to release my own version of "Big Switch". It is made to my own high standards, and is identical to the one I use in my own performances. Here is the effect;
You take a deck of cards and tell the audience that you have made a prediction that is in your inside coat pocket. You proceed to let a spectator choose a card, and then show you have predicted it by removing from your pocket a Jumbo Eight of Spades (for example). The spectator protests that this is incorrect, so you ask for the name of the card chosen. "The Queen of Hearts" (for example) you are told. "In that case," you say, "I must perform what is called in the trade, a switch." You turn the card around and fixed to the back is a wall switch, you solemnly flip the switch. When you turn the card round again, it has changed to the correct card, the Queen of Hearts.

THE SENOR MARDO EGG BAG
Nowadays it seems that the egg bag of choice is the Malini Style. I offer my variation
of the Senor Mardo bag in my lecture as an alternative. My reasons for preferring
this style bag are threefold. It is easier to handle, the (you know what) is invisible
even upon direct inspection, and far more effects are possible, as well as some
novel moves. I also prefer the brighter coloring. Expert seamstress Gladys Lewis
makes these bags and I believe them to be the most practical and deceptive egg
bag available. We also offer the perfect
