S. U. M. Deck
S.U.M. has nothing to do with math, the initials stand for Set Up Marked. It is the stacked, marked, deck that needs no calculation or memorization whatsoever because the deck does all the work. You don't have to decipher esoteric markings or remember formulae, everything is literally spelled out for you.

OUT TO DINNER
An elegant answer to the ugly rubber bands.
The Out to Lunch principle is an ingenious method of switching one card for another without detection under close scrutiny. Its origins go back 150 years. The traditional method has a rubber band around the cards that hide a half card. It is a beautiful principle that has many applications.
For those of us who occasionally work an upscale crowd, the rubber band seems very...well, inelegant, for lack of a better term.
So a few years ago, Greg Wilson came out with the Stockholder wallet. This was a beautiful leather item with a band that accomplished the same purpose as the rubber band. At first, this looked like a solution to the "elegance" question. But no one I know carries a wallet like this, gimmicked or not, for business cards. So it turned out to be a kind of "magic proppy" looking thing.
Well, Rocky Mountain Magic and Tim Andrews has devised a simple, but elegant, stainless steel clip that holds about 6 business cards. This doesn't look like a prop, it looks like what it is...a simple clip that holds a few business cards together. It is a totally innocent looking thing that accomplishes the out to lunch principle perfectly without looking "proppy".

THE MCABEE SWITCH
For owners of the McAbee Rings. This clever switching device created by Danish magician Per Helmark, is designed for stand up performances. It works beautifully, it is smooth and silent in operation, and it is virtually angle proof. (OK, someone clinging to the ceiling might catch it...) If you want to perform the McAbee rings in a strolling, or restaurant situation this is for you. Comes two ways.

THE GHOSTWRITER
When the name of a selected card is found mysteriously written on a borrowed paper napkin or handkerchief, it can only be the work of The Ghostwriter. This truly magic marker created a sensation during Martin's 2001 lecture tour. If James Bond were a magician "Q" would have made this pen for him. It comes with the routine mentioned above, but there is a plethora of effects possible whith the versatile prop.

THE SIDEWALK SHUFFLE
Martin's classic effect, still used by magicians everywhere, after 30 years. This is in three phases. The first two are similar, but with variations in handling. The third phase has an unexpected "knock-out" finale. In the first two phases three blank cards and an ace are shown. A blank is placed aside facedown, and the ace put between the other two blanks. A spectator fails to find the ace because the three cards are shown one by one to be blank, and the ace is on the table. The third time the spectator usually guesses that the ace is on the table. But it is shown to be really a blank card, and the cards in the hand are shown to be ALL ACES!

THE STAMPEDE SECOND
Deal an impossible second... From under a postage stamp! Magic with a gambling theme. This routine incorporates two separate effects. In the first you claim to find the spectators card form a "marked" deck by wearing special virtual light specs. Oddly everyone but you can see the marked card plainly. When you remove the glasses it's too late - the mark has disappeared. You then demonstrate a second deal to find another card, but not any old second deal, and impossible one... from under a postage stamp. A professional routine - 5 minutes of entertaining close up magic that's simple to do and has a remarkable, visual climax.

A BOLT FROM THE BLUE
A striking effect
NOTE: This is an effect I published in the September 2002 issue of Genii Magazine. The instructions and illustrations in the magazine are more detailed than those I supply with the effect, although you must make the prop yourself. My instructions are clear enough and the prop is included.
EFFECT: A nut and bolt, that have been screwed together and a hole drilled through them, are cleanly shown dangling in the center of a blue cord. With a slight squeeze the nut falls from the bolt and cord into the spectators hand. This effect has fooled everyone that has ever seen it. It only seems to play one-on-one. I don't really know why it doesn't play larger, perhaps with a different presentation. However for that one person it's a real killer.
